Bunkai for Shuto-Uke

During the early days of Chinese Kenpo and Okinawan Karate, the practice consists of techniques, use of techniques and Kata. The use of techniques was practiced with partners, very much like Jujitsu and Judo. These fighting techniques were originally store in Kata like money stored in a bank. Only when a Karate-ka knows the use of the techniques will he/she practice the Kata that has those techniques. If we practice the use of the techniques before we practice the Kata, the Kata become more realistic and alive. The Kata of Karate is very interesting in that it teaches the use of our entire body to fight and defend one self.
